Propafenon is an aminocenton with excellent anti-arrhythmic activity. Its long-term effect was studied for at least 3 mo. in patients with ventricular ectopic beats. Patients [34] showed satisfactory response (decrease to < 50% on the frequency of ventricular ectopic beats) with maximum daily dosage of 900 mg. The control was made by clinical, laboratory and ECG methods. Only 2 patients had subjective complaints with the drug and refused to continue with the tests, although there were no clinical signs that justified the symptoms. An excellent tolerance to the drug was seen in 32 patients. The serum levels of glucose, urea, creatinine, uric acid, bilirubins, glutamic-oxalacetic and pyruvic-oxalacetic transaminases, creatinophosphokinase, lactic dehydrogenase and alcaline phosphatase and hematogram were unchanged after 3 mo. of treatment in the controlled patients (14 cases).
