The therapeutic effect of propafenon on ventricular premature beats (VPB) of various origins was studied in 20 patients by the Holter System during a 90-day period. All patients were submitted to blood and urine tests to monitor possible changes in drug levels. The oral administration of propafenon, 900 mg daily was effective in 70% of the cases, with an 80% reduction of VPB observed during longer periods of observation. Side effects requiring withdrawal of the drug were rarely noted. No alterations of the renal and hepatic functions were detected.
