Giant spinal lipoma extending into the posterior fossa in a 6 months old child

A case of intradural spinal lipoma extending between the posterior fossa and the 8th thoracic vertebra in a 6 mo. old child is presented. These extensive lipomas without spinal bifida in the 1st year of life are rare. The difficulty of surgical treatment and the poor prognosis of these precocious, widely extensive tumors are discussed.
