One-stage epidemiological examination of 2010 persons among the organized rural population in the Krasnodar Territory was conducted. Most (81.8%) of the persons examined were engaged in physical work in various branches of agriculture, 18.2% were office workers. Arterial hypertension was found in 10.9%, border-line in 9.6%, increased arterial pressure was diagnosed in 38.8% of these cases for the first time. Ischemic heart disease was found in 4.7% of persons examined, in 43.1% it was revealed for the first time. A close relationship between the frequency of coronary diseases and the level of arterial pressure was established. The study did not yield indisputable data on the effect of factors like physical exercise, hypercholesterolemia, smoking and a positive familial history on the frequency of arterial hypertension.
