Trichomoniasis in great horned owls

Three cases of trichomoniasis (Trichomonas gallinae) in Bubo virginianus from Sacramento, California, USA, are reported. 2 birds with necrotic lesions affecting deep tissues of the skull failed to respond to dimetridazole therapy and died. Another bird with lesions of the cere, roof of the mouth and the eye responded to dimetridazole at 100 mg/lb/day by stomach tube for 5 days and within a week the lesions began to heal.
