Clinical picture of duodenal peptic ulcer in combination with opisthorchiasis

A comparative analysis is given of case reports of patients with duodenal ulcers that developed in the presence of opisthorchiasis invasion and of those having no opisthorchiasis. Some specific features of the clinical picture of peptic ulcer accompanied by opisthorchiasis are revealed: less occurence of pain chronologically associated with food intake and fewer seasonal exacerbations, more abrupt increase in the acidity of gastric juice, the presence of the symptoms of the hepatobiliary system affection in most patients, an increased peripheral eosinophil count and a somewhat greater number of complications. Difficulties of differential diagnosis of peptic ulcer associated with opisthorchiasis are discussed and the treatment strategy for patients with a mixed pathology is indicated.
