The stability and influence of the medical profession in South Africa rest in the South African Medical Association which owes its foundation to a man of inestimable worth and excellent character, but now unknown or long forgotten. This paper is intended as a tribute to Dr Alfred Cox, quondam Organizing Secretary of the British Medical Association, if it be only to place on record our omission to do honour where great honour is due.
