Polymers of ethylene glycol (PEG) are used extensively in the study of intestinal physiology [e.g., an intestinal permeability marker], since their high solubility in water and low toxicity make them useful as non-radioactive tracers. A simpler method for the analysis of PEG 400 by GLC is reported. The method does not require extensive sample preparation and a slow and somewhat difficult assay is rendered faster and easier. Fifteen urine standards of varying concentratiosn (prepared from the same lot number of PEG 400) were analyzed on different days using different columns.
