It is reported that third-instar larvae of Ruttenia loxodontis Rodh. were removed from small swellings, which had already burst, on the abdominal flanks and thighs of an elephant calf that had been brought to a zoological garden in Czechoslovakia from Uganda some 6 months previously. This fly was described in 1924 from larvae found in swellings on the dorsum, abdominal flanks and chest of a tame elephant in Zaire (Congo), but little is known of its biology. It has not previously been reported from a zoo animal.
