Twenty-five patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) and 10 patients with retinal vein occlusion (RVO) were studied. Screening of coagulation, fibrinolytic activity and platelet aggregation with different aggregating substances was performed. Significant changes were found in the platelet count and in the circulating microemboli index (CMI) in the 2 studied groups in comparison with the normal group. Increased platelet aggregation with epinephrine and arachidonic acid, and spontaneous aggregation, were obtained in patients with DR and RVO.
