The microbiological quality of different samples of M. piperita was determined. Of 12 samples analyzed, 6 carried more than 104 mesophilic aerobes/g and patent fecal contamination occurred in 7. The results are discussed in comparison with present norms for non-compulsory sterile medicines. Norms for plant-derived drugs are proposed.
