Pancreatoduodenal veins in man can be divided into 4 groups: upper anterior pancreatoduodenal veins, the upper posterior pancreatoduodenal vein, lower anterior pancreatoduodenal veins and lower posterior pancreatoduodenal veins. Among them various types of arisal can be distinguished relative to the size of the duodenal areas from which they drain variations depending on the number, course and types of their anastomoses. Considering the directions of the blood outflow from the duodenum, 2 areas can be distinguished as follows: the infero-anterior area from which blood flows to the upper mesenteric veins or its tributaries, and the supero-posterior area from which blood passes to the portal vein.
