The discriminating power of the indices of left ventricular function were analyzed in 33 chronic coronary patients compared with a control group of 15 normal subjects. The finest analysis of left ventricular function is obtained using a telesystolic stress relationship-telesystolic diameter and the ratio average rate of shortening/telesystolic stress. The study of early left ventricular relaxation (40 ms after the negative peak dp/dt [1st derivative of left ventricular pressure]) permits demonstration of left ventricular abnormalities in 65% of coronary patients with normal left ventricular function.
