Antifertility effects of alcoholic extract of M. conzatti flower were observed on male albino mice after administration (s.c.) of 15, 20 and 30 doses (1 dose = 50 mg/ alternate day per mouse). With increase in the number of doses there occurred corresponding decline in absolute weights of testes, epididymides, vas deferens and seminal vesicles. Histologically, signs of partial degeneration of testicular elements appeared after 15 doses. Administration of 30 doses resulted in complete arrest of spermatogenesis and mass atrophy of the spermatogenic elements. Epididymal epithelium also regressed and the lumina were either devoid of spermatozoa or contained debris. The protein and sialic acid contents of testes, epididymides and seminal vesicles and glycerylphosphorlcholine in epididymides also reduced significantly. The cholesterol and glycogen contents of the testes were elevated after 30 doses. Alkaline phosphatase activity in testes reduced (P < 0.02) after 20 or 30 doses, while it remained unaltered in epididymides and seminal vesicles. Fructose of seminal vesicles reduced significantly after 20 doses, then attained normalcy after 30 doses.
