Relationship between the intensity of protein synthesis in fibroblasts and the width of the channels of the cytoplasmic network

The relationship between the rate of protein and RNA synthesis in fibroblasts and different width of the rough endoplasmic reticulum canals was studied in electron autoradiography experiments by the double labeling method. It was found that protein synthesis in fibroblasts with narrow canals of the rough endoplasmic reticulum proceeds faster than in the cells with wide canals. A possibility of periodic changes in protein synthesis and secretion by fibroblasts is discussed.
