Prognostic factors and treatment response in acute lymphoblastic leukemia of children and adults treated with a non aggressive combination chemotherapy

The 33 child and 24 adult patients, diagnosed by panoptic and cytochemical stainings for ALL score of lymphoblasts. The survival was significantly longer for patients with platelet level .gtoreq. 50,000/mm 3, or Hb < 10 g% or high PAS score. The median survival for adult patients and children with high PAS score is 42.5 and 64 mo., respectively; it is much longer than the median survival recorded for the 2 single whole groups. The therapeutic schedule should be modulated according to the ALL subtypes to prevent overtreatment or undertreatment of patients.
