External dyspareunia after delivery

A prospective investigation was undertaken concerning the incidence of external dyspareunia (ED). The study consisted of 310 pregnant women. Ante partum, the incidence of persistent ED was 7.2%. At 6 mo. post partum, the incidence was 8.6% and at 11-15 mo. post partum 2.7%. Ten patients with persistent ED 6 mo. after delivery were treated as outpatients and 90% became symptom-free after treatment for 3 mo.
