In 9 villages in a rural area of Haryana, India, nutrition education of primary schoolchildren significantly increased their knowledge as estimated by multiple-choice questionnaire. Demonstrations, field visits, puppet shows and teaching with pictures were more effective than lectures, stories, balloon play or role play. Children over 12 years old learnt better than did younger children, and children of class 5 than of class 4. Children with a lower initial score had a significantly greater increase of knowledge than had children with a higher initial score.
