Intravital diagnosis of echinococcosis in men using immunological reactions

A variety of serological tests was performed on 8 people with surgically confirmed hydatidosis and 41 people with clinically confirmed hydatidosis. The cysts were found in the lungs, brain, liver and eyes. The complement fixation reaction was positive in all 8 surgically diagnosed cases and in 34 of 41 clinically diagnosed cases. The titres ranged from 1:2 to 1:64. All of the 8 and 30 of the 41 patients were positive for the Weinberg reaction. For the ring precipitation reaction the positive titres ranged from 1:4 to 1:64 in all 8 patients and in 30 of the 41 patients. For the latex flocculation test the positive titres ranged from 1:32 to 1:1024 for the 8 surgically diagnosed patients and from 1:8 to 1:512 in 39 of the 41 clinically diagnosed patients. In the intradermal test strong positive reactions (+++) were obtained from 5 of 8 surgical and 6 of 23 clinical patients and positive reactions (++) from 3 and 12, respectively. The control groups for each of the reactions were either negative or weakly positive. Elevated eosinophil levels were observed in the patients with hydatidosis.
