Subdural hematoma and hemorrhagic changes of the pachymeningosis haemorrhagica type

The influence of the factors assumed to be pathogenic for pachymeningosis hemorrhagica interna (phi) on the dura mater were studied. The topographic relation existing between dura mater and hematomas attached to its internal surface was established. Sectioned cases (35) with intravitally diagnosed pathogenic states of phi and 9 cases with subdural hematoma were studied. Histological diagnosis of the sectioned material stained by H-E, cresyl violet, van Gieson and Weigert's methods was made. The diseases ascertained as pathognomonic for phi do not play an important role in the appearance of hemorrhagic changes in dura mater. Extravasations to subdural space correspond to the concept of subdural hematoma. Changes occurring on the internal surface of the dura mater are connected with the process of hematoma organization.
