Analysis of 645 autopsy findings in fetuses and newborn infants from the clinical obstetric viewpoint

Of 1013 dead fetuses and newborns, 63.6% were autopsied and analyzed for the causes of death. Anoxemia was the main cause of death in fetuses, followed by malformation. In newborns the main causes of death were pulmonary diseases, followed by intracranial hemorrhage (traumatic and anoxemic), malformation and anoxemia. Measures for guarding against premature births and perinatal mortality include improvement of perinatal and maternity cares.
