Mexitil was an effective antiarrhythmic drug during treatment of patients with acute myocardial infarction. The drug was most effective during ventricular arrhythmias arising in the acute stage of myocardial infarction to prevent cardiac rhythm disturbances. Mexitil did not affect conductivity or heart rate and only in rare cases reduced arterial pressure. The toxicity was low and it was well tolerated by patients.
