Semen samples from three one-year-old goats inoculated by mouth with 104 infective oocysts of GT-1 strain of T. gondii were diluted with an equal volume of saline plus antibiotics (2000 U penicillin and 200 mu g streptomycin/ml saline), stored for 1 hour at 22 deg C and injected into 20 mice. T. gondii was first detected in semen 7 days after inoculation and continued over a period of 52 days from one goat and 16 days from another. The third goat was killed after 14 days. All infected mice died within 34 days of inoculation and all had T. gondii tachyzoites or cysts.
