Blood-pressure screening of 158 persons in Upernavik and 252 persons (the total population over 15 yr) in Scoresbysund showed no difference between casual blood pressures in these 2 Greenlandic localities and in Copenhagen [Denmark] (The Copenhagen City Heart Study). This holds true with regard to the age-dependent rise in systolic and diastolic blood-pressures amounting to 6-7 mm Hg and 1-3 mm Hg/decade, respectively. The findings agree with the results of earlier studies in Umanak district, but not with indications of a low age-independent average blood-pressure in polar Eskimos in Thule. The Thule study was based on resting blood-pressure measurements in in-patients, which may explain the difference.
