Direct suture and partial splenectomy for splenic rupture in children

Conservative splenic surgery in cases of ruptured spleen in children has become an accepted and routine procedure. Attempts to conserve splenic tissue should be made even in cases of multiple trauma and other significant injuries. Two children who were victims of car accidents and sustained severe systemic injuries as well as rupture of the spleen are presented. A partial splenectomy with direct suture of the spleen and ligation of splenic vessels was carried out in 1 case, and direct suture of 3 separated splenic lacerations in the other. Both children improved rapidly, with no complications.
