Exposure of the worker to capture gamma-rays does not justify eliminating Cd from personnel dosimeters. Increased exposure to the whole body is negligible and that to the skin under the dosimeter is normally very small and of short-range effect (< 2 cm). Some features of Cd make it more preferable than other dosimeter materials; these include durability, small fabrication cost, uniformity, availability, strength and most important, the neutron cross section.
