Eimeria leuckarti in five Minnesota horses

This infective agent, known as Globidium in Europe, was found in five horses submitted for PM examination after dying naturally from unknown causes. Diagnosis was made histologically from H and E stained section of small intestine. Four horses were less than a year old. Although E. leukarti was isolated from all cases it could not be conclusively proved as being the cause of death in any one. Other organisms were isolated in most cases that were more likely to be the cause of death. The parasitic stage is designated as schizont by the authors. However, no further evidence on the pathogenicity is available.
