In rats underfeeding before weaning as described in the preceding abst. caused a decrease in the soluble and the particulate dipeptidase activity in the small intestine active on glycyl-L-leucine, glycyl-L-proline, L-prolyl-glycine and glycyl-L-histidine. After weaning dipeptidase activity returned to control values or above. Total dipeptidase activity was greatest in the proximal or middle region of the small intestine. Underfeeding caused a decrease in dipeptidase activity along the length of the small intestine.
