Glucose metabolism in [human, animal] malignantly transformed cells is discussed. The topics discussed in this editorial are: glucose metabolism in transforming lymphocytes; regulation of lymphocyte glycolysis; control of glucose transport in connection with protein synthesis, Ca and sulfhydryl groups; altered characteristics of the stimulated glucose carrier; the role of enhanced glucose metabolism in cell proliferation; relevance of mitogen-induced lymphocyte proliferation to an understanding of malignant transformation; and aerobic glycolysis as a site of action for specific anti-tumor agents.
