An aesthesiometer with disposable monofilaments is designed for measuring very small pressures on the human corneal surface . This was achieved by using various lengths of a nylon monofilament with diameters of 0.08, 0.10 and 0.12 mm. With these lengths and diameters pressures of 0.1-1.0 g/mm2 can be exerted on the corneal surface.
