Administration of 20 mg of testosterone or oestradiol in pellet form to castrated female golden hamsters caused a decrease in intensity of subsequent experimental Schistosoma mansoni infection, as judged by the numbers of parasites recovered at autopsy 36 days after infection, compared with untreated infected controls. Progesterone (20 mg) had no significant effect on the intensity of infection.
