Desamino-oxytocin (ODA-914) was administered orally to 10 women at 10 min prior to each breast feed during the 1st 4 days post partum; the daily dose totalled 50 IU. Milk ejection was assessed by squeezing the breasts and by measuring milk yield at each feed using the infant weighing technique. Treatment with ODA-914 stimulated milk ejection and uterine involution in 7 and 8 of the women, resp. There was no incidence of breast engorgement and no adverse side effects of the treatment were observed.
