The effect of dynamic, static and nervous stresses connected with the professional and extra-professional activities of women was studied along with the effect of additional noxious agents present in the working environment. The influence of these agents upon the course of pregnancy, labor maturity, signs of dystrophia and mortality of the outcomes was studied. The material was divided into 3 groups. Group I embraced 4175 women (32.6%) with a heavy load of professional and extra-professional duties, Group II included 3942 women (30.8%) with a moderate or light load of professional activity with high socio-economic standard and self-consciousness, Group III included 4678 women (36.6%) without professional load. The professional loads and noxious effects significantly affected the course of gestation, leading to an increased incidence of pregnancy complications in the I and II groups.sbd.notwithstanding the social and educational standards. The newborns in these groups were delivered more frequently (significant incidence) with debilitated state-at-delivery (Apgar score); the percent of adaptative disturbances and neonatal mortality was higher in group I, in comparison with professionally unloaded subjects (Group III). The highest risk of prematurity and dystrophy of the newborns existed in groups I and II in women with low socio-economic standard, overburdened with professional and extra-professional occupations. These investigations should lead to an increase of understanding in the community of the consequences of misuse and misinterpretation of the legal act concerning the occupational and professional laws of women in Poland. It may lead to a decrease of the pregnancy risks, losses of newborns, incidence of prematurity and dystrophy and neonatal development disturbances.
