The inclusion of our session in the program has two intentions:1. to demonstrate some of the progress made by the investigation of malignant tumors of immunocompetent cells by means of immunological methods, and 2. to stimulate thinking about the function of normal cells on the basis of new facts about neoplastic cells, since malignant lymphomas, being masses of usually monoclonal cell populations, offer a special opportunity to be studied with immunological and biochemical methods. In this context, we should not forget that the first biochemically analyzed and characterized immunoglobulin was a myeloma protein.
