To define the mechanism of the .gamma.2b .fwdarw. .gamma.2a subclass switch observed in cultured cells, constant region to an intact C region. The resulting data are compatible with the .gamma.2b .fwdarw. .gamma.2a switch resulting from a recombination event between tandem genes on homologous chromosomes or chromatids.
