The course of lactational reflex recovery in 4 patients who had symptoms of milk insufficiency is described. To remove maternal anxiety about the milk supply the patients were provided with a Lact-Aid, and to force a more immediate reversal of the insufficiency a course of chlorpromazine, 25 mg 3X/day for 7 days, was started in 3 patients. To disrupt the pattern of anxiety during the feeding, the patients were encouraged to focus on pleasant associations while nursing, nurse without interruption, and groom their infants. Wt. gain in all infants became appropriate for height.
