In this review of poisonous plants available to livestock in the USA a distinction is made between plants primarily hepatotoxic or nephrotoxic. The former group includes species of Senecio, Tribulus, Lantana, Nolina, Tetradymia, Echium, Amsinckia, Crotalaria, Heliotropum, Echinum and Myoporum and the latter group includes Amaranthus, Chenopodium, Solanum, Datura, Ricinus, Lantana and Abrus. The symptoms and lesions caused in large animals by ingestion of Datura stramonium, Lantana camara and Quercus spp. are dealt with in more detail.
