The effect of the neuroleptic agent methiothepin maleate, a dopaminergic and serotoninergic antagonist, on serum prolactin and growth hormone (GH) levels was studied in 5 male and 5 female volunteers. Following 2.5 mg oral methiothepin, serum prolactin levels showed a prompt increment that lasted for several hours. No significant variations were detected in serum GH levels.
