Histochemical examination of the main tubules in the rat kidney following experimental administration of Toxobidin

Main tubules in rats given increased doses of toxobodin (50 mg/kg-150 mg/kg i.p.) were examined. Examinations revealed enzymatic activity of acid phosphatase (FK), alkaline phosphatase (FZ), thiamine pyrophosphatase (TPPase), ATPase and 5-nucleotidase (5-N), lipase, neutral lipids, succinic dehydrogenase (BDH), glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH), lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) and isocitric dehydrogenase (IcDH). Toxobidin administered in a subtoxic dose (acute toxicity of toxobidin was about 165 mg/kg in rats) had a strong effect on enzymatic reactions in the main tubules of the rat kidney. Observations show increased activity of TPPase, lipase, ATPase and a slight increase in neutral lipids. Toxobidin caused a decreased activity of FK, FZ, GDH and LDH. Enzymatic activity of 5-N, BDH and IcDH remained unchanged.
