A karyological study of 6 continuous murine cell lines [L929 fibroblasts, BALB/3T3 embryo thymus and bone marrow LSV5 cells, LtK fibroblasts, BALB/C bone marrow JLSV-9 cells, BALB/3T3 embryonic cells, Swiss 3T3 NIH fibroblasts] using C-method [Giemsa stain] of differential staining of chromosomes showed characteristic marker chromosomes were present in the majority of cell lines. This method is simple and accurate for the species-specific identification of murine cell lines.
