Rupture of the posterior cruciate ligament in a cat

This appears to be the first reported case. A 12-month-old castrated cat was presented with severe acute lameness of the left hind limb. There was severe pain on palpation. Excessive anterior-posterior movement was demonstrated when the cat was anaesthetized. Radiographic signs were rupture of the posterior rather than of the anterior cruciate. This was confirmed at surgery; the anterior cruciate was found intact. No attempt was made to repair the ruptured ligament and the cat was not re-presented.
