The extremely rapid adsorption of cyanophage A-1 on the alga Anabaena variabilis cells occurs in 0.01 M tris-HCl-buffer in the presence of 0.1 M MgCl2 at pH 7.0 and 25.degree. C. Kinetics of the cyanophage adsorption on the host cells is more complex than the 1st order reaction. Analysis of kinetic curves for the cyanophage adsorption and some other characteristics of the process showed that cyanophage A-1 adsorption on the cells occurred according to the competition model. Some thermodynamic potentials of the process are calculated; their values indicate an enzymic character of the reaction of the virion attachment to the algal cell.
