At the hospital of the Heavy Engineering Corporation, at Dhurwa, Ranchi, India, 13 cases of malaria were diagnosed in July to December 1973, (4.3% of 303 smears examined) 212 in 1974 (9.3% of 2279) and 363 in 1975 (7.7% of 4720). The malaria occurs mostly in the 2nd half of the year. 70% of the patients were more than 13 years old and 64% were males. 92% of the cases in 1974 and 75% in 1975 were due to Plasmodium vivax. Nevertheless the area is usually hyperendemic for P. falciparum and there was an increase of P. falciparum in 1975. Most of the cases were mild and only 2 deaths occurred.
