Quantitative histological and neurophysiological studies in scapulo-peroneal syndrome

Patients (13) affected with muscular atrophy of the shoulder girdles, of the anterolateral side of the legs and in some cases, of the face were studied. These cases showed common electromyographic [EMG] and histological aspects. The histographic analysis, in particular, showed hypertrophy of type II fibers in most patients. The EMG and histological data suggested a neurogenic pathology. The classification of this disorder and its possible relation to facio-scapulo-humeral muscular dystrophy are discussed.
