645 patients were sterilized by tubal occlusion with Yoon's silastic ring. Patients were between 20-40, with parity 3-5, most with only primary school education, and some with antecedents of abortion. Moreover, 70% of patients had previously used some contraceptive method, especially oral contraception. Transoperative complications occurred in 2.4% of cases, including 9 cases of uterine perforation. Percentage of postoperative complications was very low, i.e. 0.8%. There were 4 pregnancies, only one of which possibly depended on a surgical error. Contraceptive effectiveness over a 2 year period was excellent, i.e 99.9%. It can be concluded that this method of sterilization is very simple, combining high effectiveness with low incidence of complications.
