Milk production by dairy cattle in Pennsylvania and North Carolina after deworming (treatment at freshening and systematically over the first three months of lactation)

In trials in Pennsylvania and North Carolina, USA, milking cows infected with gastro-intestinal nematodes in 14 herds were treated, as they freshened, with Baymix in the feed at 1 oz/100 lb body-weight/day for 6 consecutive days and then once weekly with this dose for the first 3 months of lactation. In Pennsylvania 90 treated cows produced an average of 769 lb more milk and 22 lb more fat during their 305-day actual lactations than did 85 untreated controls. In North Carolina the respective differences between 75 treated cows and 82 controls were 1075 lb and 44 lb. Treated cows entered their next lactation an average of 14 days sooner than did the controls.
