Cysticercosis cerebri in Irian Jaya. A case report

A case report is presented of a man from Irian Jaya (New Guinea), Indonesia, who was admitted to hospital for severe burns on his left foot. He had a past history of fits of 4 months' duration. He died 18 hours after his left leg was amputated below the knee. Post mortem examination revealed multiple scattered cystic nodules in all lobes of both cerebral hemispheres. Over 20 nodules were seen throughout the brain, most being in the cortical layer. Sections through one of the nodules enabled Cysticercus cellulosae to be diagnosed.
