To evaluate the the cardio-respiratory efficiency of the athlete, clinical-instrumental research was performed on 16 professional football players and 16 young, untrained subjects who led an active life. The following cardio-respiratory parameters were taken at the recovery phase: respiration rate, rate of oxygen consumption, CO2, O2 utilization coefficient, respiratory quotient, heart rate, blood pressure, ECG; CTG , systolic time intervals and the triple product. Noticeable differences were seen in the respiratory and cardio-circulatory activities in the 2 groups. The method permits the evaluation of an athlete's performance, utilizes consistent training methods and shows anatomic-functional alterations which might otherwise remain latent.
