A mouse strain G established by Suzuki and Matsubara is resistant to N- and NB-tropic Friend leukemia viruses (FLV). The cultured fibroblasts of the G mouse embryos showed about a hundred-fold resistance to N-, B- and NB-tropic murine leukemia viruses (MuLV) in comparison with the other susceptible mouse fibroblasts. Comparative studies on the restriction of G mouse fibroblasts and the one controlled by the Fv-1 locus are reviewed. In vitro resistance of G mouse cells was not expressed in the initial cycle of MuLV infection but in the propagation of virus to the surrounding cells.
