A flock of 20 000 birds was affected with contagious sinusitis, with a mortality rate of 40-50 birds daily. The main clinical signs were respiratory distress, paralysis of limbs, and the laying of soft-shelled eggs. PM examination of three birds revealed infraorbital sinuses swollen with caseous material or mucoid gelatinous exudate. There was also ovarian atrophy. M. gallisepticum was isolated from sinuses. It is not known whether the strain originated from fowls or whether it is specific for quail.
